ROLES & DUTIES
Thank you for your interest in serving the NAACP community. We are thrilled to have you join us in Charlotte, from July 9 -16, 2025, at the Charlotte Convention Center. Roles may be assigned as follows:
ACT-SO Volunteer Roles

Office Assistant - Assists the National ACT-SO Staff in the Main Office

Competition Usher - Limit internal movement in competition rooms and maintain order within the audience, assisting the Room Facilitator

Competition Facilitator - Responsible for the flow, order, and integrity of the individual ACT-SO Competition. The Room Facilitator is trained and well-versed in the overall ACT-SO Competition and the competition they're leading. They know the process and procedures for successfully opening and closing a competition by following the provided script, briefing notes, and other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Room Facilitator hosts their panel of judges from orientation to final score submission.

Competition Baton - Deliver messages, supplies, etc., to event spaces

Greeter - Welcome guests to the National ACT-SO Competition Events

Registration Assistant - Assists with the fulfillment of registration kits

Event Assistants - Assists with the overall execution of scheduled events. Responsibilities include scanning badges for access to events, escorting panelists to sessions, etc.

Judges Lounge Assistant - Assists the ACT-SO Accounting Team on competition day.

Awards Ceremony Usher - Assist with organizing and leading guests and contestants during the ceremony

Music Cue - Play assigned music for contestant performances

Time Keeper - Start and stop a timer, and record contestant times

Parade Marshall - Organize and escort Contestants into the Awards Ceremony

Registration Volunteers
Bag Stuffing - Volunteers are needed to assemble kits for delegate registration on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 or Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Set up where needed with instructions from Convention Staff

Work a minimum of four (4) hours per shift

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes

Other assignments as determined by the National Staff
Registration Volunteers - Volunteers are needed to assist in monitoring registration lines, the tote bag station, and line busting and answering attendee questions. Volunteers are needed during the following times:

Friday, July 11, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Saturday, July 12, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sunday, July 13, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Monday, July 14, 6:00 am – 5:30 pm

Tuesday, July 15, 8:00 am – 5:30 pm

Wednesday, July 16, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
*Shifts may be split, and we suggest volunteers work at least four hours, but may work as long as they like.

Volunteer FAQs

How do I register as a volunteer for the 116th National Convention? Volunteers are managed by the host Branch (Charlotte for 2025). Volunteering does not provide complimentary access to all benefits and events at the National Convention. We prefer that volunteers be local. We do not provide accommodation or transportation assistance.

Are volunteers paid for their time? No. We do not compensate volunteers.

Are volunteers offered free convention registration? No. Volunteers will receive a credential and a volunteer t-shirt. They must register and pay the fee if they would like to attend part of or the entire convention.

Does the NAACP provide travel, housing, and/or parking for volunteers? No. Parking is limited in downtown Charlotte. We encourage volunteers to take the light rail.

What meals are covered or offered to volunteers? Meal vouchers are provided for every four (4) hours of work/day.

Can I select the events I'd like to volunteer for? No. Volunteer assignments are determined based on availability, ADA needs, and comfort levels.
Kindly be advised that registering to volunteer does not grant access to all areas of the National Convention. To fully participate in the convention, you must complete the attendee registration. Please visit naacp.org/convention to view the full schedule and register. Hotel accommodations and transportation are not included.
