Volunteer Roles & Opportunities
Volunteers support both the NAACP National Convention and ACT-SO. These events bring together community leaders, advocates, students, and supporters from across the country. Volunteers help ensure that programming runs smoothly by assisting staff, supporting participants, and helping guide attendees throughout the venue.
Registration & Guest Services
Volunteers help welcome attendees and provide support throughout the event.
Roles may include:
- Registration Assistant — Process attendee check-ins, distribute badges, and support the registration desk throughout the event.
- Greeter — Welcome attendees at entry points and create a warm, positive first impression of the convention experience.
- Line Management and Guest Support — Help manage attendee flow, answer questions, and ensure a smooth and organized entry process.
- Registration Kit Assembly (Bag Stuffing) — Assist with assembling and organizing attendee registration materials prior to and during the event.
- Airport & Hotel Wayfinding — Assist arriving attendees with directions, transportation guidance, and navigation between the airport and hotel upon arrival.
Event Operations
Volunteers support the behind-the-scenes logistics that keep the event running smoothly.
Roles may include:
- Setup Support — Assist the operations team with event setup, breakdown, and general logistics throughout the convention.
- Directional and Wayfinding Assistance — Station throughout the venue to help attendees navigate spaces, locate sessions, and find key event areas.
Session & Competition Support (ACT-SO)
Volunteers assist with the smooth operation of convention sessions and ACT-SO competitions.
Roles may include:
- Competition Facilitator Support — Assist competition facilitators with setup, coordination, and participant management during ACT-SO events.
- Competition Usher — Guide participants, judges, and audience members to designated areas during ACT-SO competitions.
- Session Door Monitor — Manage room access, distribute materials, and assist attendees as they enter and exit sessions.
- Badge Scanner — Verify and scan attendee credentials at session and event entrances to ensure authorized access.
- Workshop and Plenary Room Support — Assist with room setup, AV needs, and attendee support during workshops and plenary sessions.
- Competition Baton (Message and Supply Runner) — Deliver messages, materials, and supplies across competition and event spaces as needed.
ACT-SO Participant & Judge Support
Volunteers help support the students and judges participating in the national ACT-SO competition.
Roles may include:
- Timekeeper — Monitor and communicate time during ACT-SO performances and presentations to keep competitions on schedule.
- Music Cue Operator — Manage music cues and audio support for ACT-SO performance categories.
- Judges Lounge Assistant — Support judges with hospitality, materials, and any needs throughout the competition day.
- Awards Ceremony Usher — Guide participants, families, and guests to their seats and assist with the flow of the awards ceremony.
- Parade Marshal — Help coordinate and direct participants during the ACT-SO parade of talent and opening processional.
Final Assignments
Volunteer assignments are determined by the volunteer coordination team based on availability, role preferences, and event needs. Additional details and instructions will be shared with confirmed volunteers prior to the event.
